The GIPSA LibertyLink Rice Proficiency Program was formally initiated on September 22, 2006, with samples mailed to participating laboratories. The samples were either conventional rice, or conventional rice fortified with LibertyLink« rice. Laboratories must be approved by Bayer CropScience to participate in the USDA/GIPSA LibertyLink« Rice Proficiency Program.
For the first 6 weeks, GIPSA mailed samples to the participating laboratories weekly. Later, the frequency was reduced to monthly, then twice yearly. Effective January 2009, the LL Rice proficiency program has changed to a 6-month distribution of samples. An
assessment of each laboratory's performance (pdf; 20Kb) in the Program is tracked for each sample issuance. The laboratories listed in the performance assessment table have been authorized by Bayer CropScience to participate in the USDA/GIPSA LibertyLink« Rice Proficiency Program.
