EXPLANATION: Milling degree is one of several inspection criteria used to determine the quality of milled rice. To ensure consistency in the application/characterization of milling degree, a series of Visual Reference Images (VRI)  were established to assist inspectors in differentiating between the various milling degrees referenced in the standards. Milled rice whose appearance does not meet this minimum milling degree requirement is considered “well milled,” “reasonably well milled” or “undermilled”. Consult the VRI depiction for “well milled” or “reasonably well milled” to determine which of these milling degree descriptions apply.
